About
Stu Watts is a musician, songwriter, producer and engineer who’s been making meaningful, authentic music for over two decades. He came up as a drummer and guitarist in bands like The Playbook and The Spinset, earning national airplay on Triple J and Triple M and touring alongside high-profile local and international acts. After completing an Advanced Diploma in Music Industry Skills (Technical Production) in 2011, he became a sought-after live engineer at Melbourne venues like The Corner Hotel, The Evelyn and Cherry Bar.
These days Stu works in the studio as a producer, engineer and songwriter. He’s worked with hundreds of artists, including Lil Mosey, Bukowski and Willowbank Grove, racked up more than 11 million Spotify streams, and was nominated for Breakthrough Producer at the 2024 MPEG Awards.
He’s also passionate about education. He hosts the What’s That Sound? podcast, which was nominated for Outstanding Community Work at the 2024 MPEG Awards, and created The Home Studio Drum Recording Masterclass, which teaches home producers how to capture punchy, commercial-quality drums in untreated spaces.
