What is behind the login

  • The forum

    Rooms for mixing and mastering, gear and rooms, feedback on your own work, and the general run of studio talk. Threads stay readable because they are moderated and because nobody is farming engagement.

  • Feedback on your work

    Post a mix, say what you are unsure about and what you already tried, and get a critique from people who will name the problem rather than tell you it sounds great.

  • Mentoring one to one

    Book a timed session with a mentor when a thread is not enough. Notes are kept afterwards, so the next session starts where the last one stopped.

  • A place to be found

    Publish a profile to the public directory, so the work you post has somewhere to send a client who likes it. No commission, and we do not sit in the middle.

Mentoring

Someone in your corner, not a course to watch

A forum is very good at the questions that have an answer. It is less good at the ones that need somebody to listen to your mix with you, or to look at what you are charging and tell you it is too low.

Mentoring sessions are booked at a time that suits both people, they are timed so nobody is watching the clock, and what you agreed is written down afterwards. The point is that the next one starts where the last one stopped.

How we keep it worth reading

Most production forums die the same way: the people who know the most get tired of answering the same question between arguments, and leave. So the rules here are about protecting their time rather than policing tone.

Every member signs up under their own name, posts are moderated by people who read them, and anything reported gets looked at by a human. Members can flag a post, and we tell them what happened to it.

Ask a real question
Say what you tried and what you heard. "Fix my mix" gets a fix-my-mix answer.
Critique the work, not the person
Direct is welcome. Dismissive is not.
No drive-by promotion
Share what you made and talk about how. Do not drop a link and leave.
Credit where it is due
If somebody solved it for you, say so. It is how the next person finds the answer.

The directory lists producers, mixers and mastering engineers from the Academy, with their work and their rates. You contact them directly and you pay them directly. We do not take a commission and we do not sit in the middle of the conversation.

Questions people ask

Is the forum free to join?
Yes. Every Academy member gets the forum, including on the free tier. A couple of rooms are kept for paying members, but the mixing, mastering, gear and feedback rooms are open to everyone who is in.
How do I get in?
The Academy is invite-only, so you request access and tell us a little about where you are up to. It is not a test, it is how the forum stays small enough to be useful.
How big is the community?
Small, and new. We would rather say that than round a number up. What it means in practice is that a question posted today gets read by people who have time to answer it properly, which is the thing large forums lose first.
Can I get feedback on my mixes?
Yes, that is one of the main reasons people are here. Post the track, say what you are unsure about and what you have already tried, and you will get specifics back rather than a thumbs up.
Do I have to be a professional?
No. There are people running commercial rooms and people finishing their first record. The one thing everybody is expected to do is show their working.
Is it moderated?
Yes, by people rather than by a filter. There are published guidelines, anyone can report a post, and we tell the reporter what came of it.
